Eagle and Summit County Divorce Attorney and Mediator Catherine J. Cheroutes
Experience has demonstrated that in most divorces, child custody issues, and other conflicts, the best resolutions are arrived at through a collaborative approach. When I am assisting clients at the Cheroutes Law Firm in Summit County, whether as a divorce attorney, representing the best interests of a child, or in the mediation of a dispute, I always suggest we begin by seeking to identify points of agreement and working out as many differences as possible.
The majority of cases result in an out of court agreement that serves the primary goals of both parties and helps them avoid the publicity, the acrimony, and the expense of a trial. However, if it is in the best interests of my client, I am always prepared to provide vigorous representation at trial.

Since 1998, I have been active in Colorado’s Fifth Judicial District, an area encompassing Eagle, Summit, Clear Creek, and Lake counties. I gained significant trial experience as a Deputy District Attorney and, since 2003, have practiced family law exclusively. I know the communities in which I practice, I understand the people who live here and our unique issues, and I have worked with these courts and judges for years.
-
In addition to my extensive experience as a trial lawyer, I have served the community in a number of ways: I was an inaugural member of Leadership Summit, a leadership development group focusing on collaborative problem solving in the community; I am a former board member of the Carriage House Early Learning Center Board of Directors; and I am the newly elected president of CASA of the Continental Divide, an organization providing court advocacy to children involved in dependency and neglect cases.
-
I serve as a volunteer mediator in Jefferson County, handling offender-victim juvenile offenses, small claims, landlord-tenant disputes, business disputes, and family court mediation.
-
In my private practice, I provide mediation services in family law matters and other interpersonal and business disputes.
When choosing a lawyer to help with sensitive issues such as divorce, child custody, or court-ordered mediation, it is important that you understand what your options are and that you are comfortable before proceeding. For that reason, I offer new clients an initial consultation at a flat fee of $100.
During that consultation, I will ask questions about your specific situation, answer any questions you have about your legal options and potential costs, talk with you about the process of divorce or mediation and, depending on the court in which your matter will be handled, tell you what to expect during the course of proceedings.
If you would like to meet with me or have another question, please call or e-mail my Breckenridge office.
